Written by Elaine Case.  My mother died on May 1, 2013 at 10:04 pm. She had lived with me for eleven years. She  was only at Hyder House for three days.  My daughters and I were at her side pretty much the entire time.  We were there the moment she took her last breathe.  I didn’t know what to expect but the nurses…no the angels dressed as nurses….made sure we were well informed.  They stopped in at the right moments for just the right amount of time.

I will always remember Jenn.  She was the “angel” who welcomed my mom who was very aware and understood what was happening when she came to Hyder House.  Jenn was there the night my mom passed.  She helped us understand what we would see when the time was close. I thought I’d be so scared…but I wasn’t.  They had prepared us.  It was the most peaceful moment I have ever known.

I will forever be grateful to all at Hyder House who helped my mom live her life with dignity, right until the very last moment.  As Ira Byock writes – my mom “died well”.
