We are all deeply saddened by the upcoming abrupt closing of Hyder Family Hospice House on April 18th 2026. The Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House, like many of those in our community, are still working to understand what is going to happen in the coming weeks.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Staff who tirelessly cared for the patients, their families and their friends as they journeyed through their end-of-life experience. Never did the Staff waiver from the compassionate love and comfort they showed to all and their commitment to their hospice calling.

We have reached out to Raymond Bower County Administrator (rbower@straffordcounty.gov) and Commissioner George Maglaras (georgesmarina@comcast.net) to ask what are the plans are for this cherished place.

Many of you have asked about the memorial bricks placed in our beloved Memorial Brick Walkway, and asked what is to happen, will it stay intact, will people still be able to visit, and is it possible to get the bricks of their loved ones.

At the time of this message, we have not heard from Mr. Raymond Bower or Commissioner Maglaras. We are awaiting their guidance so we can share it with you and our community about what is coming next.

If anyone would like to pick up memorial bricks, please reach out to Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House by emailing friendsofhyderhouse@gmail.com to make this request.

We will update this message as we learn more.

Memorial Bricks

The Memorial Brick Garden and Walkway was dedicated in September 2013 as a place to reflect and remember loved ones. You can memorialize your family and loved ones with up to three lines of text on a specially made brick that will be added to this beautiful area. All project profits will help to support Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House.
